GET TO KNOW

The Great Smoky Mountains

A part of the Appalachian Mountains, the breathtaking Smoky Mountains, or Smokies, stretch 72 miles along the Tennessee/North Carolina border. They are named so because of the haze from the moisture and organic compounds emitted by its abundant vegetation.

The Smoky Mountains are home to a vast number of diverse species of plants and wildlife, and is a part of “UNESCO’Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB)/International Biosphere Reserve”. This helps ensure that proper actions are taken to protect the mountains’ ecosystem while still allowing the public to enjoy them.

Yearning for a fun vacation within driving distance? The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is withing a day’s drive from two-thirds of the country’s population. Established in 1934, the national park hosts over 12 million visitors per year. In fact, it is the most visited national park in the United States! To visit the Smokies from the Tennessee side, you will take the scenic SR-441. This road passes through the beautiful and fun-filled cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, all of which offer a wide range of possible accommodations during your visit to the area. The park also offers camping and lodge accommodations.

Come to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and see for yourself why it is the most visited national park in the country. Nature lovers can watch the area wildlife and appreciate the variety of abundant plant life. Hiking trails of all levels are plentiful, as are places to fish and relax. With so much to do and see, you will not be disappointed in this national treasure!
